During September 12-18, the 6th annual Dig In Food Festival presented by Averton Homes provides an intimate, hands-on experience for you to connect with friends and celebrate eating and making local food. Take your pick of hands-on workshops and culinary tours where you’ll be sure to experience food in a whole new way. Being actively and personally involved is what makes this whole festival unique.

Author Reading: Food Artisans of Alberta

Thursday, September 12

Karen Anderson and Matilde Sanchez-Turri have explored all of Alberta to bring you "Food Artisans of Alberta.” Join Karen and Tilly at the St. Albert Public Library (Forsythe Hall, Library 5 St. Anne Street, St. Albert, AB) from 7-8 p.m. on Thursday, September 12 as they share their adventures through Alberta's food scene. Tickets are free for the author reading.

Bread Making Workshop

$60 - Saturday, September 14

Become a bread wizard as you learn the tips and techniques to make an amazing loaf of bread, the no-knead way on September 14 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the Little White School (2 Madonna Dr, St. Albert, AB). This is a hands-on class presented by Breadlove so be sure to come prepared to have fun and learn. Bring a 2-quart bowl with lid and you will go home with bread dough ready to be baked off at home. Finish off the session with a butter tasting to accompany our freshly baked loaves.

A flight of beer at Endeavour

Beef and Brews Workshop and Dinner

$75 - Sunday, September 15

Start out at D'Arcy's Meat Market (40 Chisholm Ave, St Albert, AB) at 6:15 p.m. to learn all about farming practices and participate in a demo taking down a side of beef. You’ll leave knowing what all the cuts of beef are and what they’re good for in this behind the scene’s experience. Next, move on to Endeavour Brewing (walk or drive to 215 Carnegie Dr, St Albert, AB) for a flight of your choice of craft beer and meal supplied by D’Arcy’s Meat Market. Finish up the event with a brewery tour and another flight of beer. Learn all about how beer is made and why craft beers all taste different. ((**The 5:30 p.m. tour has sold out. Tickets are now on sale for a second tour at 6:15 p.m.**)

Fairy Gardens and Wine Workshop

$60 - Monday, September 16

Grab your girlfriends for a night of creative crafting and wine in this fun fairy garden workshop on Monday, September 16 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the St. Albert Grain Elevator Park (4 Meadowview Drive, St. Albert, AB). Spend the evening playing in the dirt with the Wheelbarrow Gardener as you build a fairy garden masterpiece complete with figurines, mini plants and décor like bridges, fires, fences and so much more. Desserts will also be provided. Note: Please bring a low-temperature glue gun. All plants and other supplies will be provided.

Culinary Biking or Walking Tour

$65 – Tuesday, September 17

Work up an appetite to justify indulging in St. Albert’s epicurean delights! Tour starts at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17. Meet up at the Servus Place (400 Campbell Drive, St Albert, AB) parking lot where we’ll bike to the following locations while enjoying each restaurant's cuisine along the way: 1. D’Arcy’s Meat Market 2. Appetite Global Cuisine 3. Endeavour Brewing 4. Skybox Grill. The bike tour is approximately 3.5 km in length. Please come prepared with comfortable footwear and dress for the weather. You will also require a helmet and bell on your bike. Tour happens rain or shine. **Note: Don't have a bike? That's okay too! The first 3 locations are under 1 km apart and those without pedals can walk between locations 1-3 and then hop in their car to travel the 2 km down the road to our 4th and final stop.

Culinary Walking Tour

Join us on a walking tour as we visit four shops and sample their delectable local offerings. Tour starts at 6 p.m on Wednesday, September 18. Meet up at Cranky’s Bike Shop (24 Perron St, St. Albert, AB) before heading onto the following locations: 1. Janos Café and Bistro 2. Jack’s Burger Shack 3. The Cajun House 4. Confections Cake Co This tour involves approximately 1 km of walking. Please come prepared with comfortable footwear and dress for the weather. Tour happens rain or shine.
